Born on 29th January 1979 and a native of Michigan, Koch was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 2013 and completed astronaut training a couple of years later in 2015.

She also now holds the record of being an astronaut with the second-longest stay in space, only behind Scott Kelly, who spent 340 days in space.

Astronauts on the space station, whose 20th anniversary in low-Earth orbit comes later this year, have made 227 maintenance spacewalks, almost two dozen of which included women astronauts, according to NASA.

Alexander Skvortsov looked every part the Russian space veteran as an aide wiped his brow and he tucked into a fresh apple under the firm grip of gravity.

Nearly a yr after she arrived on the Worldwide House Station, Christina Koch, 41, is again on terra firma.

Local Kazakhs on horseback were among those to witness the capsule landing in the snow-covered steppe as support crews gathered around the three astronauts, NASA commentator Rob Navias said.

During his time on the ISS, he conducted six spacewalks for a total of 33 hours and nine minutes in the vacuum of space.

But the astronaut's picture was also praised by many people who thanked Mrs Koch for her work on the orbital laboratory.

With the new infections, Singapore now has 30 confirmed cases, of which 11 are Singaporeans. Code orange was imposed during the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009.

Along with European Space Agency's (ESA) Luca Parmitano, and Roscosmos' Alexander Skvortsov, Koch hit Earth at 4:12 AM EST (9:12 AM GMT) on Thursday, February 6.

"Koch's prolonged mission will present researchers the chance to watch results of long-duration spaceflight on a girl because the company plans to return to the Moon underneath the Artemis program and put together for human exploration of Mars", NASA stated in an announcement, per CNN.

The 41-year-old Michigan-born engineer by training surpassed the previous record set for a single spaceflight by a woman - 289 days, held by NASA veteran Peggy Whitson - on December 28, 2019.

"It's really fun to be in a place where you can just bounce around between the ceiling and the floor whenever you want", she said, smiling as she twisted her body around the ISS.

Following post-landing medical checks, the crew will return to the recovery staging city in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, aboard Russian helicopters. Her mission was the longest-ever by a woman. This marked his first flight into space.

The 43-year-old Italian posted regular shots of the Earth while aboard, highlighting the plight of the Amazon rainforest and poetically describing the Alps as "like a spinal column, never bending to time".

Parmitano and Skvortsov spent 201 days in space.

U.S. astronaut Scott Kelly's 340 days in orbit starting in 2015 demonstrated that long-term spaceflight caused human health effects such as thickening of the carotid artery and retina, changes in gene expression and slight cognitive impairments for men.
