Two residents living on different floors of a high-rise tower called Hong Mei House, in northwestern Hong Kong's Tsing Yi, had been infected with coronavirus, health officials said.

China's Human Resources Ministry announced on Thursday that Zhang Xiaoming would be removed as director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO), to be replaced by Xia Baolong, a 67-year-old vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Professor Gabriel Leung, chair of public health medicine in Hong Kong, made the comments while en route to a meeting of the World Health Organisation.

Leung, one of the world's experts on coronavirus epidemics warned at the end of January that outbreaks were likely to be "growing exponentially" in cities in China.

"With 99 percent of cases in China, these remaining parts particularly a crisis for that nation, however one that holds an exceptionally grave risk for the remainder of the world", Tedros told analysts accumulated in Geneva on Tuesday.

Leung told the paper on Tuesday that experts must assess how well China's containment efforts have worked so far and whether other countries should replicate them.

However, with their game streaming service, new consoles, software, and the PC market, Microsoft are in a strong position no matter what happens next generation.

Leung's estimate was based on the rate at which people with the virus are passing it on, which experts have said could stand at 2.5 people per infected person, according to Reuters. To date China has reported 42,708 confirmed cases, including 1,017 deaths, Tedros said. Even if the genera fatality rate is 1%, it still means that the death toll would be huge. Maybe not. Maybe it will be done in waves. Elsewhere, "independent and self-sufficient outbreaks in major cities around the world may become inevitable".

"Maybe the virus will mitigate its lethality because it certainly doesn't help it if it kills everyone in its path, because it will also kill it".

"Have these massive public health interventions, social distancing, and mobility restrictions worked in China?"

A possibility was that a broken exhaust pipe had allowed the virus to spread, Wong said.

The decision was made "out of an abundance of caution related to uncertainties associated with the 2019-nCoV outbreak and to ensure the safety and security of U.S. government personnel and family members", a spokesperson said.
