Japanese officials, meanwhile, confirmed 99 more people were infected by the new virus aboard the quarantined cruise ship Diamond Princess, bringing the total to 454. Outside China, the ship had the largest number of cases of COVID-19. With 520, Japan has the most cases outside China. They say more than 1,000 people have been discharged daily for six straight days and that treatment is going well. Around Jan 23 to Jan 26, the epidemic peaked and began to decline, according to the data. The death rate for those confirmed cases has been 2.3 percent - 2.8 percent for males versus 1.7 percent for females. On Dec. 26, preliminary genetic sequencing data indicated the presence of a coronavirus related to severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, according to a commentary paper in the Lancet medical journal published on February 11. So far, it's not clear if the difference is due to the virus or prevention tactics, they noted.

A hospital director, Liu Zhiming from Wuhan died on Tuesday, state media said, the latest medical worker to fall victim to the coronavirus which has spread across the country. After the January 29 paper prompted some public backlash, the CDC said it was based on "retrospective inference" of data from 425 cases, which had already been made public.

But he added it was too early to know if the reported decline would continue. "Every scenario is still on the table", Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. New confirmed cases in Wuhan stood at 1,600, down from 1,690 on Sunday. He added that the worldwide expert team is now on the ground in China to answer more questions and to get an even clearer picture of the outbreak. For example, in Zhejiang, over 1,000 confirmed cases were found but no deaths have been reported as of Sunday. It makes sense, as Hubei is the most-affected province and has the most severe cases. The death toll is 1,770.

He had not travelled overseas recently and had no known contact with virus patients, CNA said, citing Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung. The ship has been quarantined in Yokohama port since Feb 3. Ten others, along with three spouses, were flown to Omaha, Neb., to get care at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, officials said.

On Sunday night and Monday, 328 American cruise ship passengers arrived in the USA, including 14 who tested positive for the virus and were taken to hospitals in California and Nebraska.

Delta commits US$1bn to substantial decarbonisation plan
Delta burned 4.2 billion gallons of fuel a year ago , 2.5% more than it burned in 2018. Of course, the real-world impact of the initiative remains to be seen.

On Monday, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention published a study of earlier cases of the disease, finding that more than 80% of people infected had mild illness and the number of new infections seems to be falling since early this month.

The 2,009 new cases in the previous 24-hour period brought the total to 68,500.

In a preprint publication yesterday, an worldwide group of virologists detailed the evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 is not lab made or artificially manipulated.

They also looked at whether selection during passage in culture could have produced the same genetic features they observed.
