Newman Hospitalized After Horrific Daytona 500 Crash

Race vehicle driver Ryan Newman was rushed to the hospital after a horrific crash occurred during the last lap of the Daytona 500 on Monday (February 17) in Daytona Beach, Fla.

NASCAR driver Ryan Newman has been taken to a nearby hospital after he crashed coming to the finish of the Daytona 500.

FOX broadcasters announced crews removed Newman from the auto and he was being rushed to a hospital in the area. On Monday night, Roush Fenway Racing issued a statement clarifying that while his injuries were not life-threatening, he was in serious condition.

"Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center". Just hope Ryan's all right.

Hamlin said Ryan Newman is a "tough guy" in his post-race speech.

Newman had surged into the lead on the final lap when Blaney's bumper caught the back of his Ford and sent Newman hard right into the wall

Newman surged to the lead on the last lap of the race - which was delayed from Sunday because of rain - with the help of Ford teammate Ryan Blaney.

The official word on Newman's injuries brought tweets of relief from several drivers, including Brad Keselowski, Matt DiBenedetto, Ross Chastain, Bubba Wallace and Kyle Busch.

Hamlin won the iconic race, that took place in Daytona Beach, Florida, for the third time in his career, according to NASCAR.

"That looked really bad and not something you want to do". It's a weird balance of excitement and happiness for yourself, but obviously someone's health and their family is bigger than any win in any sport.

"We're just hoping for the best".

Hamlin and winning team owner Joe Gibbs paraded to victory lane to celebrate the team's second consecutive Daytona 500 victory, unaware of the severity of Newman's wreck. Don't' get me wrong. We got in the winner's circle, and then that's when people told us.
