Expo 2020 Dubai leader Aysha Al Nuaimi also said, "We're delighted to celebrate a landmark moment in the quest to achieve 100 per cent autonomous human flight".

Another stunning milestone for the Jetman team, as pilot Vince Reffet demonstrates the new ability to take off from the ground, then hit the gas on the carbon jet wing's four turbine engines and soar away into the sky.

The approximately three-minute flight saw Reffett fly at an average speed of almost 150 miles per hour before parachuting to the ground from a height of about 5,000 feet. The Jetman team is the only group willing to take its device up to high altitudes at this point, and has flown alongside airliners in previous flights when launched aerially out of other aircraft.

In eight seconds pilot Mr Vince Reffet had reached 100 meters in altitude, in 12 seconds 200m, 19 seconds 500m and he reached 1km in 30 seconds at an average speed of 150mph.

Jetman pilots have previously launched off of elevated platforms, such as off of a helicopter.

The daredevil pilot was "overjoyed" by the successful flight, describing it as "the result of extremely thorough teamwork". "It's being worked on", Reffett said in a statement.

Yankees-Red Sox Series Heats up AL East Race
The New York Yankees won the series, winning 8-1, losing 11-0, and winning 11-1 to make up some ground on their rivals. Despite sitting on top for much of the season, the Boston Red Sox are expected to lose steam as the season progresses.

"Everything was planned to the split second", he added.

After three minutes, the Jetman completed his airborne journey by performing a roll and loop in the air, 5,905 feet above ground.

Now they're trying to work on landing back on the ground without a parachute. "It's another step in a long-term project".

The Crown Prince of Dubai shared a video to his Instagram account Monday showing the first autonomous human flight in the city via a vertical takeoff.

"One of the next objectives is to land back on the ground after a flight at altitude, without needing to open a parachute".
