Valve's full statement says: "With Half-Life: Alyx on March 23, we are working hard to meet the demand of the Valve Index and we want to assure everyone that the Index systems will be available for purchase before the game is released".

Ever since Half-Life: Alyx was revealed late previous year, demand for the Valve Index virtual reality headset skyrocketed. Apparently, there will actually be systems available to buy prior to release, but production schedules have been impacted to the point where there will be far fewer units than hoped.

Potential buyers can click on the "I want to be notified" button on the Steam product page and they will get an email notification as soon as the Valve Index headset can be ordered again.

Valve has said it is still working to meet the demand for its Index headset, but there will be "far fewer" units available due to the coronavirus crisis.

The virtual reality headset has grown more and more popular after the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx, which is set to release on March 23.

All of this interest added up to over 100,000 Index devices being sold, making Valve Index the bestselling PC VR headset of the last quarter of 2019. Unfortunately, its stocks will be much more limited due to the coronavirus' impact on production facilities around the world. But if you're waiting for the chance to play on an Index, getting your hands on the hardware may be a challenge. Most of the Valve Index bundles offered on Steam also include a complimentary copy of Alyx. Our entire team is working hard right now to maximize availability.

In a statement to UploadVR, Valve says that more Index systems will be stocked prior to Alyx's launch, but not almost enough to satisfy demand.

Half-Life: Alyx is the latest entry to Half-Life series after a decade.
