Israel Deports Over 1500 South Koreans Over Coronavirus Scare

The U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday issued a level 3 warning advising travelers to cancel all non-essential travel plans to South Korea.

One of the honeymooners on Mauritius, Park Min-kyu, wrote on social media: "They took our passports and put us on standby, and then said we should be isolated for 14 days without any explanation of the situation".

Xing, speaking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry Wednesday, asked for "understanding from the Korean people" while trying to draw a line between measures undertaken by the central government and provincial governments.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz called an emergency meeting at his ministry over the possible ramifications of the case of the South Koreans visitors.

While it's unknown whether the group contracted the virus before or after their return to South Korea, the Health Ministry is operating on the assumption that they arrived in Israel as carriers of the virus, which has a 14-day incubation period during which those infected are asymptomatic. Such guidelines are already in effect for those returning from China, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau.

Another four Israelis were hospitalized in Japan after testing positive for the virus.
