The NRL had chartered a plane to move teams around the country, lessening the chance of players being exposed to the virus among regular travelers.

While the AFL has 18 teams based across five states, rugby league is primarily centred on New South Wales and Queensland. But that may no longer be enough.

The Australian Football League's attempt to forge on with the season despite the coronavirus outbreak lasted just one round before it was shut down on Sunday in the wake of a government crackdown on non-essential travel.

The FFA said it would provide an update Monday when two matches are scheduled, between Newcastle and Melbourne City and Perth and Western Sydney.
