Nvidia RTX cards get a 'super easy' speed boost from DLSS 2.0

Nvidia's DLSS stands for Deep Learning Super Sampling (our analysis here), and is a technique that was introduced together with the RTX 2000-series graphics cards in September 2018.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Gets NVIDIA DLSS 2.0 Today! It gives gamers the performance headroom to maximize ray tracing settings and increase output resolutions.

While this naturally doesn't mean that every game will offer support for DLSS 2.0, it does remove a substantial pain point of the original implementation that explains why numerous titles that claimed DLSS support was coming never delivered on that promise. "Real-time ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS made Control look fantastic at launch, and upgrading to DLSS 2.0 made the game's image quality better than ever". This means that 4K gaming is way more affordable than it was before, as you won't need something like an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.

Nvidia is also looking to make AI graphics optimization more accessible with DLSS 2.0.

Great Scaling Across All GeForce RTX GPUs and Resolutions - A new AI network more efficiently uses Tensor Cores to execute 2X faster than the original.

This new implementation, as we've already explored, looks way better than it did in the past, to the point where no one should avoid using this version of DLSS 2.0, even if you have the hardware to render your games at full resolution with all details maxed.

Nonetheless, she advised that examination around the new manifestations for Covid-19 isn't far-reaching in the clinical network. She cited reports from doctors in Iran , the U.S., France and northern Italy in a letter posted on March 21 on ENT UK's website.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is just one of many games that never received promised DLSS support.

The end result? "DLSS 2.0 offers native resolution image quality using half the pixels", Nvidia claims-meaning it can run much faster at the same image quality, or improve both the image quality and the speed of your game, as shown in the comparison below. You'll have a mix of options for DLSS now: a Quality, Balanced and Performance presets.

Getting DLSS 1.0 working took a lot of heavy lifting on Nvidia's end, which might be why numerous games that Nvidia claimed would get DLSS wound up dropping those plans. In its original form, DLSS had some issues and exhibited questionable image quality in some titles.

A special type of AI network, called a convolutional autoencoder, takes the low resolution current frame, and the high resolution previous frame, to determine on a pixel-by-pixel basis how to generate a higher quality current frame. In MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, DLSS 2.0 improves performance from 30% to 75% using the "Quality" mode, all while maintaining, and in some cases even improving, image quality.

If you played Wolfenstein: Youngblood after its RTX update earlier this year, then you will have already seen a preview of the quality improvements coming with DLSS 2.0. "It was additionally tremendous simple to implement with Nvidia's new SDK, so it was a no brainer for us so as to add it to MechWarrior 5". When Control's new The Foundation DLC launches later this week, the base game will be patched to upgrade its DLSS implementation from 1.0 to 2.0.
