Xbox Live is undergoing "unprecedented demand" as a result of the pandemic

In a statement released on the official Xbox website on March 24, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, revealed that the company had added a new Education category to the Minecraft Marketplace as a way to help parents continue their children's education through lockdown and quarantine-related school closures due to the Coronavirus.

In the midst of a pandemic, Mojang is providing free educational content in the Minecraft Marketplace. Creators Everbloom, Jigarbov, Lifeboat, Razzleberries, and others have added worlds themed around renewable energy, marine biology, Greek history, and other topics.

Gaming platforms have seen a surge in activity in recent weeks, as governments across the world advise citizens to stay at home and avoid socialising. Players can travel to the International Space Station in a special partnership with NASA.

"I have previously stated that I believe gaming has a unique power to bring people together, to entertain, to inspire and connect us, and I believe that's even more true under these unique circumstances", said Phil Spencer in a message to the Xbox community.

Microsoft has released the collection to help families "navigate the need to help their children with distance learning and balance that with taking time to have fun".

Worldwide, individuals are training social distancing - and being ordered to shelter in place - in an effort to assist curb the unfold of COVID-19, the illness attributable to the novel coronavirus.

All of these worlds are launching today and are free to download through June 30, 2020.

"We understand the important role gaming is playing right now to connect people and provide joy in these isolating and stressful times", Spencer told fans in his open letter.

By downloading different worlds, kids can take part in lesson plans that feature various tasks such as creative writing assignments, puzzles, and build challenges. With that goal, Microsoft says that they are monitoring the performance of their services in order to accommodate "the increased demand". Minecraft is available on Android & iOS, Kindle Fire, Windows 10 PC, Gear VR, Oculus Rift, Fire TV, Xbox One, Windows MR, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.
