Esports racing, helped by record-setting viewership, is hitting the big time.

The next event will broadcast Sunday, March 29 at 10:00 PDT / 13:00 EDT / 18:00 BST at a virtual Texas Motor Speedway - once again, the site of the weekend's cancelled real-life event.

Insider Insight: iRacing and NASCAR have somewhat struck gold with the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series.

Now, Fox has committed to airing the full NASCAR iRacing season on Fox Sports, and will show numerous events on the main Fox broadcast network.

Nielsen Media Research ranked last Sunday's race, which was won by triple Daytona 500 victor Denny Hamlin, as Sunday's most-watched sports broadcast on cable TV with 903,000 viewers, and the single most-watched broadcast since the sporting world began retreating from the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this month.

"This rapid-fire collaboration between FOX Sports, NASCAR and iRacing obviously has resonated with race fans, gamers and television viewers across the country in a very positive way", said Brad Zager, FOX Sports executive producer.

Fox Sports will broadcast the 100-lap race and agreed to televise all subsequent races, while the NASCAR National Series adheres to a break in track competition to align with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak has resulted in the cancellation of pretty much all the sports, including motorsports like F1 and NASCAR.

Creating an even more realistic feel to the telecast, FOX NASCAR broadcasters Jeff Gordon, Mike Joy and Larry McReynolds were on hand to call the action last Sunday and will continue to do so for future iRACING broadcasts.

Elliott's started in the 20th position, due to an attempted 'virtual burnout.' Before the race began, Elliott picked lunch up at Hooters, who sponsored his would-have-been truck for the Gander Outdoor Truck and RV Series race last weekend in Atlanta.

NASCAR informed its staff Tuesday that pay cuts will be imposed across the company until the series returns to racing. Formula 1 announced last week that it would host an esports series, the F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix series, with a number of current F1 drivers alongside a number of other stars. The first race took place March 22.
