Restaurateur, ‘Top Chef Masters’ victor dies of complications from coronavirus

Chef Floyd Cardoz, best known for competing on Top Chef Masters has died at age 59.

Floyd Cardoz was tested positive for Coronavirus on March 18. The Hunger Inc, the company that runs the restaurants, had confirmed the news last week and had issued a statement that read: "As a precautionary measure we have informed the Health Department in Mumbai about the same".

The Mumbai-raised chef had been in Mumbai until March 8. He asked me if I wanted to apprentice at Tabla and I said I didn't want to do Indian food. "I will miss you so much Floyd". Earlier this month, Cardoz was in Mumbai to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his TBC and to launch The Bombay Sweet Shop, a modern take on Indian mithai, before leaving for NY on March 8.

News of Cardoz's death was followed by an outpouring of social media posts from those who knew him.

Actor Rahul Bose described Floyd Cardoz as a "wonderful" man and wrote: "Shocked to hear the passing away of Floyd Cardoz". The number of COVID-19 cases has crossed 600 in the country. This occurs through close contact with an infected person through contaminated droplets spread by coughing or sneezing, or by contact with contaminated hands or surfaces. It is unclear if pneumonia was the complication that caused Cardoz's tragic death.
