Trudeau, G20 leaders to confer on international response to COVID-19 pandemic

Those getting EI benefits now would receive the new benefit, dubbed the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, if payments end before October 3 and they can't go back to work due to COVID-19.

The coronavirus has already taken a strong toll on Canada's economy.

This benefit will apply to any Canadian out of work due to reasons related to COVID-19, including for sickness, quarantine, caregiving, staying home to take care of children or loss of jobs.

The Liberal government is repackaging two previously promised benefits for Canadians whose working lives are disrupted by COVID-19.

"If you lost your job due to COVID-19, whether you're full-time, part-time, contract or self-employed, this new benefit will be there for you".

Morneau added that the temporary 10 per cent wage subsidy will continue to be offered to workers employed by small businesses that continue to be paid.

Introduces a pause on the repayments of Canada Student Loans in the Canada Student Financial Assistance Act, the Canada Student Loans Act, and the Apprenticeship Loans Act in order to introduce a 6-month moratorium on the repayment of Canada Student Loans for all borrowers now in repayment.
