World Health Organization announces 'historic' testing of four COVID-19 drugs

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters in Geneva on Friday "there are now more than half a million confirmed cases of COVID-19" worldwide, and more than 20,000 deaths.

World Health Organization officials are testing four of the most promising drugs to fight COVID-19: These include malaria medications Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine, an antiviral compound called Remdesivir, alongside a combination of HIV drugs - Lopinavir and Ritonavir.

An urgent need of protective gears for the frontline warriors against the Coronavirus pandemic, the medical fraternity, and the shortage of it is one of the most pressing threats in the fight to prevent deaths, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Friday and urged that "this problem can only be solved with global cooperation and solidarity". Although a vaccine for COVID-19 will likely not be readily available for another 12 to 18 months, the health experts are attempting to treat the disease with existing drugs and drug combinations.

"We are delighted to announce that today in Norway and spain, the first patients will shortly be enrolled in the solidarity trial, which will compare the safety and effectiveness of four different drugs or drug combinations against covid-19".

The dire need of protective gear for healthcare workers across the globe is one of the most urgent threats in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Friday.

However, Ghebreyesus warned against using drugs that have not been proved to be effective.

Google Duo increased group video calling limit
The application until recently allowed video calls of up to 8 people, and in the last hours, they have increased the limit to 12. And Google Duo , the popular video calling app has now further added support for 12 person group calling for its users.

Dr Tedros continued: "The more countries who join the trial, the faster we will have results".

The US now has more COVID-19 cases than any other country after more than 16,000 COVID-19 infections were reported in a single day, mostly in the New York City.

He underlined the necessity to follow the evidence, saying that there are no short-cuts.

We are only at the beginning of this fight.

"Among children, the majority of children that are infected are experiencing mild disease but we do have reports that describe severe disease in children".

There are now almost 600,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus around the world. "There is one in China and I believe one in the well".
