The boy's father recently died of cancer.

"Of those hospitalised in the United Kingdom who tested positive for coronavirus, 2,921 have sadly died", the ministry said.

News of Ismail's death was shared on a GoFundMe page created by Madinah College, in Brixton, to raise money for his funeral.

The UK recorded a 14% daily increase in coronavirus cases on Tuesday, compared to a 13% increase on Monday.

There were 381 deaths and 3,009 cases confirmed on Tuesday (March 31).

Ismail's death comes just hours after a 12-year-old Belgian girl died from coronavirus.
