The anticipated Paramount Pictures movie, which was scheduled to debut on June 24, will now release December 23, 2020.

When the upcoming Fast & Furious sequel "F9" was bumped nearly a full year to April 2021, there was considerable worry that "Top Gun: Maverick" would face a similar delay if the studio decided that a June release was no longer feasible.

Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed Cruise in Oblivion, will helm the sequel, with Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer penning the script. So now the 34-year-long wait gets extended by six months, but in these coronavirus-filled times, it's hard to say when life will truly start getting back to normal, let alone when movie theaters will reopen.

Most of the big movies that make up the lucrative summer season in North America have been postponed. Last year, summer ticket sales accounted for $4.3 billion in U.S. and Canadian theaters.

The use of masks also becomes essential because of the virus causing asymptomatic infections and transmission through aerosols. If you have employees working on-site, you can encourage or mandate that masks be worn at your facility or office.

Other major delays have so-far included Mulan, Black Widow, No Time to Die, Wonder Woman 1984, and Fast and Furious 9.

Some films have also been postponed because of halted post-production, leading to reshuffling of next year's schedule, too. Universal said on Wednesday that Minions would open in July 2021 instead of July 3 this year. The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run will aim for July 31 instead of May 22.

"A Quiet Place Part II" which was originally expected to go March 20 before getting pulled from the calendar as COVID-19 fears ramped up, will now open on September 4.

Finally, The Tomorrow War - a sci-fi/action movie starring Chris Pratt - had been scheduled to open December 25 but is now undated.
