After backlash, Centre overturns rules on J&K government jobs

The notification of domicile rules for the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir had triggered a major row as it not only loosened the criteria of who can claim residency but also opened up higher-level jobs open for all and kept only lower level jobs, such as junior assistant and peon, reserved for locals.

Some Kashmiri groups in Jammu and Kashmir have been fighting against Indian rule for independence, or for unification with neighboring Pakistan.

As reported already by the Kashmir Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Bukhari was assured by the home minister that the lacunas identified by him in the domicile order would be removed and the law would be made exclusive in the matter of employment for the Jammu and Kashmir residents. Another said that both people of Kashmir and Jammu should get united over the matter which is totally in discriminatory in nature. "In spite of the "amendment", #Domicile Order still falls short of expectations in content and context as well".
