Police arrest Funke Akindele, ask Naira Marley, others to report

The police have arrested Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele, in Lagos State.

Spokesperson for the police in Lagos, Bala Elkana, confirmed Akindele's arrest on Sunday evening. "She has been taken to SCID", Elkana was quoted to have said.

Saturday, April 4, was Funke Akindele's husband's birthday and the celebrity couple made a decision to throw a house party that had quite a number of guests in attendance, including controversial Nigerian singer, Naira Marley, Funke's best friend, Eniola Badmus. Following the violation, the police have invited her husband Rasheed Bello (aka JJC Skillz) and popular musician, Azeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley).

Thousands of Nigerians on social media called for the arrest Akindele, popularly called "Jenifa".

The command's spokesman revealed that police detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Yaba were promptly drafted to the location where the actress was arrested.

Elkana said efforts had been intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, and Akindele's husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello, aka.

He asked the duo to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday in their interest or risk being declared wanted.

Akindele has appeared in a Nigeria Centre for Disease Control video to raise awareness about coronavirus.

She later apologised over the incident, saying most of those who attended the party were colleagues, who were living temporarily within the estate and could not return to their home states because of the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
