India plays US' friend in need, allows hydroxychloroquine export to fight covid

During Sunday's news conference, Fauci was asked about his thoughts on using hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19, but Trump interjected and did not give Fauci the opportunity to respond.

She said that Italy and Spain, which together have had more than 260,000 Covid-19 cases and more than 28,000 deaths, have "crossed the apex" of their outbreaks after aggressive social distancing efforts for the past four weeks.

Like members of the task force, regulators also seem to be split on the drug.

Apart from Trump who said he would appreciate it if India released the amounts USA companies have ordered, Israel President Benjamin Netanyahu made a direct reference to India's export ban by hoping it would improve pharmaceutical supplies.

NY state recorded a slight dip in fatalities on Sunday compared to the day before, but governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters it was too soon to say whether the pandemic had reached its apex and urged New Yorkers to remain vigilant. Hopefully they will BOTH (H works better with A, International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents),' he wrote on March DATE.

Trump also said the federal government has bought a "tremendous amount" of hydroxychloroquine, referring to a drug that has not been FDA-approved but only given a limited emergency use authorization, and there are "strong signs" it works on the coronavirus.

"Doctors disagree about things all the time", he said.

The American Medical Association's president, Dr. Patrice Harris, said she personally would not prescribe the drug for a coronavirus patient, saying the risks of severe side-effects were "great and too significant to downplay" without large studies showing the drug is safe and effective.

"A lot of people would say, follow the money", Brzezinski said on a recent episode of the program. Trump said that his administration would be delivering an additional 600,000 N95 masks to the city on Monday to "take care of the needs of the public hospital system".

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), has yet to embrace hydroxychloroquine, the drug the President touts, without evidence, as a miracle treatment for Covid-19. If it didn't work, at least it didn't kill patients, he said. "I'd bet on President Trump's intuition on this one", he added.

In the meantime, the president told reporters that the USA must open again and Americans want to return to work. Hours later, attorney Gregory Rigano appeared on a primetime show and said evidence suggested that it could rid the body "completely" of the virus. As long as the pandemic is raging, the government plans to monitor the exports of the two key drugs.

In fact, India has even stopped the export of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) which is said to help patients fight Covid infection.

Later on Sunday, Mr Trump warned the United States was approaching a "horrific point" in the outbreak.

The drug is considered a potential cure for COVID-19, which has taken over 68,000 lives since December 2019 when the virus was first reported in China's Wuhan.
