Lee Fierro, ‘Jaws’ Actor, Dies of Coronavirus at 91

Fierro reprised the role of Mrs. Kintner in 1987's Jaws: The Revenge.

Actress Lee Fierro, best known for her famous Jaws "slap scene", has reportedly died of complications from coronavirus.

In "Jaws", Fierro's character was the mother of Alex Kintner (Jeffrey Voorhees), the second victim of the great white shark.

In a memorable scene, Fierro gives an emotional speech as Kitner, slapping Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) for keeping the beaches open even after the first shark-related death.

She moved to OH a few years ago to be close to her family and had been living at an assisted care facility there when she died.

"I just found out that a girl got killed her last week and you knew it".

She was also the artistic director at the Island Theater Workshop for over 25 years and mentored over 1,000 children during her tenure there.

As she neared the end of her time on the Vineyard in 2014, the Island Theater Workshop was putting on a stage production of "Peter Pan". "I wanted you to know that".

"We brought in a rig for her, and we flew her at 85 years old", Ryan said.

Kevin Ryan, current artistic director of the theatre company, told the newspaper: "The one word I would think of when I think of Lee is dedication".

"I would still call Lee for artistic discussion and commentary. She was fiercely dedicated to the mission of teaching", Ryan added. "She worked with hundreds of young people who just adored her". He said, "Lee, you're not on Broadway, tone it down".

Galland also recounted how director Stephen Spielberg told her to tone down her delivery.

Fierro is survived by her five children, seven grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.

A small, social distancing service is being planned by her family in OH and Lee will also be honored at a memorial service in Martha's Vineyard at a later date.
