828 more people have died from Covid-19 in England

A total of 55,242 people across the United Kingdom have tested positive for coronavirus.

Overall, 282,074 tests have been carried out, with 14,682 tests on Tuesday.

More than 7,000 people have died so far from the virus in the UK.

The UK has seen its single sharpest increase in coronavirus-related deaths recorded over a day, pushing the country's death toll over 7,000.

Twenty-nine of the latest victims had no known underlying health condition and the ages of those who died ranged between 23 and 102.

Also reporting three figures were the North West with 128 the South East with 120, and the North East with 101.

Figure for each county and region in the United Kingdom will be released by Public Health England later this afternoon.

In a bid to control the rising number of cases and deaths, police and government officials have reiterated the need to stay at home where possible and to maintain a distance of at least two meters from people you are not living with.

Meanwhile, another senior minister, Michael Gove, said he is self-isolating without symptoms, after a member of his household started to develop signs of the disease.

The latest update on Johnson's condition came this afternoon, after Downing Street said the PM is "responding to treatment" and continues to be in "good spirits".
