After closing the book on the Todd Gurley era last month, the Los Angeles Rams continue to evaluate their options when it comes to figuring out how to create the most effective backfield in 2020.

Buyers remorse probably was a major theme involved in why they moved on from TG, whom they had previously awarded a massive four-year, $60 million contract less than two years ago.

Rams general manager Les Snead said Monday that he did not regret signing Gurley to a long-term extension that amounted to the star back earning $22.6 million more than he would have on his original, five-year rookie deal.

One day after being released by the Rams, Hurley agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Falcons. We know that. But he's a hard-charging runner.

McVay was short on specifics when asked why the Rams moved on from Gurley, who over the past three seasons under McVay racked up 4,988 scrimmage yards and scored 54 touchdowns. "We have language in our contracts that are going to protect us and the player".

"When you've got a player of his caliber, there's a lot of conversations". If the player comes in and has an issue that he might not pass a physical, then that's something that we'll address then. Last season, the Rams' game plan moved away from depending on the All Pro back, as he experienced a decline in touches and rushed for a career-low 857 yards. Brown coached future first-round picks Sony Michel and Nick Chubb at Georgia in 2015 and also worked with Melvin Gordon at Wisconsin during Gordon's Heisman Trophy runner-up season the year before.

As is the case with other free agents who have reached agreements, Gurley still awaits a physical.

"We certainly don't replace the production, the way that he's influenced and affected the game", McVay said.
