COVID-19 outbreak at United Poultry Company in Vancouver

The numbers were revealed Tuesday afternoon by provincial officer of health, Dr. Bonnie Henry -with in the 707 Vancouver region, 715 in the Fraser region, 109 on Vancouver Island and 153 in the Interior region.

The bulk of those cases are in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority which has had 700 cases and Fraser Heath which has 705 cases.

There 1724 cases of COVID-19 are now in British Columbia - including 40 in the Northern Health region. "We don't have any evidence that COVID-19 can be spread from meat and from the consuming of products like that or from packaging on meat or chicken in this case". Henry said some of those new cases were included in Monday's announcement of 23 new cases and the rest were announecd Tuesday.

She added that there was no change in the community outbreak in Bylands Nurseries in West Kelowna.

There has been no additonal transmissions from people who have come back to B.C. from the oilsands Kearl Lake Project in Alberta. An outbreak at a care home in the Lower Mainland as well as at the Okanagan Correctional Centre, where just a single case was identified, have been declared resolved. Officials closed the plant that day. As such, anybody with symptoms of the virus can be assessed and tested through their family physician, a nurse practitioner or a local community collection centre. "We need to have essential work done, but we need to make sure we have things in place to do our best to prevent it". "If you don't have symptoms, this test is not necessarily valid".
