"The most important part of the vetting process is looking for any hint of unethical complaints, discrimination, harassment, anything that might create an issue", Jeffress said.

On Friday, the former vice-president Joe Biden flatly denied an accusation from Tara Reade, a former staffer, that he sexually assaulted her in 1993, when he was a senator from Delaware.

Biden said on Friday that the allegations "aren't true".

Biden's critics from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party as well as supporters of President Donald Trump's campaign have pointed to Reade's 1993 sexual assault allegations as something Democrats and the media have failed to investigate.

Kavanaugh, who had also previously faced a vetting process when he was confirmed to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2006, was the subject of sexual assault allegations in 2018 when he was nominated to the Supreme Court.

"I know that I described what happened, that I felt uncomfortable, that I felt retaliated against", she told the Journal.

Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday that she had "a great comfort level" with how Mr Biden had addressed the allegation - at that point he had not spoken about it - and called him "a person of great integrity".

President Trump: Tara Reade's accusations 'very credible'

A recently uncovered Larry King Live segment from August 11, 1993 purported to show Reade's mother telling CNN that her daughter did not make the accusations public at the time because "she chose not to out of respect for [Biden]". Reade also said she canceled a planned television interview with "Fox News Sunday" because of security concerns.

Reade responded this week to additional transcripts and notes from interviews she did with the AP in 2019, in which she admitted to "chickening out" of filing an official complaint which actually alleged explicit sexual misconduct of any kind.

Speaking with Newsweek in March, Reade said her primary objective in escalating the allegations was to push back against "powerful men". He has said any such complaint would not be kept there.

"It is striking that when an experienced vetting team put Biden under a microscope before he was chosen to be second-in-line for the presidency, neither [Reade's] allegations, nor anything resembling them in Biden's history, showed up", Axelrod wrote.

Patti Solis Doyle, who ran vice-presidential operations during the 2008 campaign, wrote on Twitter on Saturday: "When Biden was selected I served as his Chief of Staff". But before Biden's statement and interview on Friday, they began urging him to address the allegation head-on.

A team of eight to 10 lawyers, led by Bill Jeffress, spent nearly two months vetting Biden to be Obama's vice president. "It never ever happened and it didn't". You can't say you believe women and then take it all back because it doesn't apply to you'.

South Korea records no new domestic COVID-19 cases
Doctors have concluded, however, that the antibodies a person develops after recovering from the virus should prevent reinfection. With clear signs of a slowdown in the number of people infected locally, South Korea is vigilant of imported cases.
