MI hospitals begin convalescent plasma therapy trial for coronavirus patients

The samples had all initially been collected to detect flu using PCR tests, the same genetic screening process that can also be used to detect the presence of the coronavirus.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday said that with the ICMR nod, SMS hospital in Jaipur will start convalescent plasma therapy on COVID-19 patients from Monday, while Maharashtra, which had started the trials last month after a nod from the ICMR, is considering to continue with it despite the Union health ministry warning.

Dr. Bishav Mohan, the necessary formalities and documentation had been done accomplished to secure ICMR approval for the Clinical Trial for Convalescent Plasma therapy for COVID -19 patients, under the programme titled " A Phase II, Open Label, Randomized Controlled Trial to Assess the Safety and Efficacy of Convalescent Plasma to Limit COVID-19 Associated Complications in Moderate Disease".

Each sample was retested several times to ensure there were no errors, Cohen added.

Cohen said it was too early to say whether the man treated in December was "patient zero" for France.

Identifying the first patent with a virus is critical to understanding how it is spread.

Dr Cohen said the patient had survived and that an initial investigation to trace the first contamination has been carried out.

The patient was sick for 15 days and infected his two children but not his wife who works in a fish stall of a supermarket.
