COVID-19: Low numbers reported as Phase Two starts up

Meanwhile, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix announced just two more cases of COVID-19 over the same period, bringing the province's total to 2,446.

The three new deaths were all seniors in long-term care homes.

As of Monday, there are 2,444 people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, with 335 active cases and 47 hospitalized cases. Forty-five people are in hospital and 12 are in critical care or intensive care units.

On Saturday, Henry thanked British Columbians who have taken the time to fill out the province's 'Your story, our future, ' survey, but noted that the government would like to hear from more seniors, as well as B.C. residents who live outside major urban centres.

"I want to reassure you that we would not be easing these restrictions if we did not feel we could do so safely", Henry said.

She said that any businesses that reopen must follow the guidelines from public health officials and WorkSafeBC.

Henry also reminded members of the public to stay vigilant about washing their hands, avoiding touching their faces, keeping a physical distance and staying home in response to any symptoms of illness.

"The accountability is on all of us to understand what safety things need to be in place relative to our specific situation", she says.

The Business Council of B.C. estimated that a widespread lockdown and closure of non-essential businesses for at least eight weeks would cost the economy $18.3 billion, and shrink growth by roughly seven per cent. He said that made much more possible, but using the prevention skills learned over the past two months.

"The fact that they're struggling is nothing but a a sorrow to us", Dix said.
