Ruby Rose threw a significant Bat-bomb into the CW's plans when she opted to not return for Batwoman forward of season 2. Batwoman won't return for Season 2 until early in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, which leaves producers additional time to find Rose's replacement. The hashtag #RecastBatwoman began trending on Twitter shortly after the announcement, with the campaign based on the idea that her sexuality was not technically "gay" because she self-identifies as gender fluid.
