Four-year rates for baseball (977) and women's basketball (983) increased by a point nationally with football (964) holding steady and men's basketball (966) dropping one point since last year's report.

The four-year rolling April average is used to determine postseason eligibility, such as ranking 6-6 football teams vying for a single bowl berth.

Any teams posting a four-year score below 930, which predicts about a 50% graduation rate, can be penalized. The score is calculated by giving each athlete on scholarship one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.

Michigan State had four teams earn a flawless multi-year rate of 1,000 in men's hockey, men's soccer, men's tennis and women's gymnastics. The current four-year period encompasses the 2015-2016 to 2018-2019 academic years.

While sports have been silent on the field for the past two months, a successful spring off the court continued on Tuesday for Indiana University with the latest NCAA Academic Progress Report (APR).

"I am disappointed on many fronts, not only for our men's basketball student-athletes, but for the other sports affected by this ruling today, as well as our great fans and alumni". Indiana's overall combined April score for 2018-19 is 979.

Of the 23 teams facing penalties, which can include reductions in practice time and games played, 18 are from historically black colleges and universities.

Matt Zenitz is an SEC football and basketball reporter for the Alabama Media Group. "The most recent single-year statistics show that 21 Ohio State teams received all the points possible for academic eligibility and retention and our athletics programs as a whole averaged an wonderful 995/1000 - by far the highest in recent memory". The 985 score matches last year's high score for the 16 years of the NCAA Academic Performance Program.

When broken down by sport, things didn't change much, either. As long as I remain the head coach of the SFA men's basketball program, we will continue to exemplify those standards of excellence both on and off the court.

That score (990) is 22 points higher than the national average for FBS football teams and ranked second-best in the SEC.

"The sustained academic achievement of Division I student-athletes is nothing short of remarkable".
