Netflix to Cancel Dormant Subscriptions

Only a few hundred thousand accounts (less than 0.5 percent of total Netflix users) meet these criteria, and Netflix has already accounted for them in its financial guidance.

Once Netflix does terminate an inactive account, it will keep favorites, profiles, viewing preferences and account details for 10 months, so in the event someone decides to sign up again they can reinstate their accounts as they were. More specifically, members who haven't used Netflix for a year, or have stopped watching for more than two years will be getting emails or in-app notifications, starting this week. Most companies are happy to let subscribers continue paying even if they are no longer using the service. If these members do not respond, Netflix will automatically cancel their subscription.

The streaming service recorded more than 182 million subscribers by the end of March this year, being one of the greatest profiting companies during this COVID-19 pandemic period.

As the stats indicate, the chances of you being subscribed to Netflix and failing to watch anything for a year is very unlikely.

Users who want to begin streaming content on Netflix after deactivation of subscription can re-login easily using their Netflix ID. Those who do not confirm will have their accounts deactivated.

If they don't reply, Netflix will cancel their subscription.

"In the meantime, we hope this new approach saves people some hard earned cash", Eddy Wu, director of Product Innovation at Netflix, said in a statement.
