"But this structure provides the best path forward for us to conduct the US Open in 2020".

The US Golf Association is cancelling qualifying for the US Open, which remains scheduled for Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, New York, in September. "With that, I still have many more years to play in the Open".

That means even though Jackson had received exemption to participate in the sectional qualifier, he won't get a chance to participate in the U.S. Open on September 17-20 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

"As you can imagine, this is a very hard decision, because qualification is the cornerstone of the USGA championship", John Bodenhamer, senior director of championship management for USGA, said in a statement.

The first PGA Tour event that MAY admit spectators is the John Deere Classic, in IL, in early July.

Jackson is exempt to play in the 120th U.S. Amateur at Bandon (Ore.) Dunes Golf Resort, which will be conducted as scheduled August 10-16, provided CDC recommendations and state and local government guidelines make it possible to do so.

The U.S. Open (Sept. 17-20) and the U.S. Women's Open (Dec. 10-13) will also be contested.

The USGA now has four remaining championships. That means the fields will be filled entirely through exemptions.

Hollywood actor Hagen Mills, 29, dies after shooting girlfriend
Most recently, Mills had a supporting role in the independent horror film " Starlight ", which is set to release on August 4. Mills' mother spoke with TMZ after the incident, saying Hagen loved acting, but his true passion was for his daughter.

Final qualifying for the 2020 US Open, conducted over 36 holes, had been scheduled to be held at eight US sites, one in Canada, one in Japan and one in England, in May and June.

QUALIFIERS were introduced for the US Open in 1924, because of the surge in entries and interest following World War One.

Bodehamer said that the USGA tried to come up with a way to retain the qualifiers, but found it impossible to ensure the safety of the players and the staff if they pushed through.

The U.S. Open might feel more like a closed shop this year.

One of the things that makes the U.S. Open great is that anyone can qualify for the championship, regardless if they are a professional or an amatuer, with more than half the field typically being players who qualify in the week leading up to the tournament.

The USGA previously announced the cancellation of six other 2020 championships, including the U.S.Amateur Four-Ball, the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball, U.S. Senior Open, the U.S. Senior Women's Open, the U.S. Girls' Junior and the U.S. Junior Amateur. After that, we hope to build fans, but that remains to be seen.

The PGA of America - which organises the biennial event along with the European Tour - have yet to decide whether fans will be admitted or not.
