"Sometimes, unwanted replies make it hard to have meaningful conversations", the company's director of product management Suzanne Xie wrote in a blog post. "Replies and Retweets of your Tweet will inherit the restrictions you placed on the root Tweet, but Retweets with Comments will not inherit your restrictions", it added. An organisation or influencer could mention a few people in a tweet and allow only them to reply, and create a conversation on the platform. They can view, like and retweet the thing, but they won't be able to reply directly to the sender.
