Record Jump In Covid-19 Cases In India, 137 More Deaths

Also, over 60 per cent of the cases are in just five cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Thane. The fatalities in the state rose to 1,500.

Of the 12,910 cases, 6,267 people have recovered and there are 6,412 active cases.

India on Saturday recorded the highest ever spike in COVID-19 with 6,654 new cases.

Cases across the world are now at 52,21,172 with 3,38,183 deaths (according to the map by Johns Hopkins) as on May 23.

Meanwhile, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency reported on Friday there have been 99 positive cases of COVID-19 in Branch County since the outbreak began with 168 cases in Hillsdale County and 96 cases in St. Joseph County.

Tamil Nadu has recorded 14,753 infections and Gujarat has reported 13,268 cases of the coronavirus disease. The Indian government has extended its lockdown till May 31 to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

Of the total toll of 3,720, Maharashtra tops the tally with 1,517 deaths, followed by Gujarat at 802, Madhya Pradesh at 272, West Bengal at 265 and Delhi at 208. "You can say this is a disease of the urban districts and almost 60 per cent of the deaths were reported in five cities - Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Pune, Delhi and Kolkata - and 70 per cent of the deaths are in ten cities", Paul said.
