Spanish football's top-flight will resume after a three-month pause due to the coronavirus pandemic on June 11 with the local derby between Sevilla and Real Betis, the government's department for sport (CSD) said in a statement on Friday.

With LaLiga set to resume in June, a former FC Barcelona president has now controversially claimed that the league campaign would have been cancelled if Real Madrid were at the top of the log when Spanish football was halted.

"God willing, we will restart on June 11".

Tebas has led the campaign to get the season back on track since it was postponed on March 12, warning that clubs could lose up to one billion euros ($1.11 billion) collectively if the remaining 11 rounds of matches could not be completed.

The statement added that the season will finish by July 19, "depending on the evolution of the pandemic".
