Daniel Ricciardo says he did have discussions with Ferrari over a possible move to the Italian Formula One team before opting for McLaren.

Ricciardo, a seven times race victor with Red Bull, had a hard season at Renault with a best result of fourth a year ago.

Verstappen spent two-and-a-half years alongside Ricciardo at Red Bull and beat the Australian in their final year as teammates together in 2018 before Ricciardo left for Renault.

Australian Formula One star Daniel Ricciardo says Sebastian Vettel's split with Ferrari was inevitable after a series of incidents with his teammate Charles Leclerc in 2019.

"There have been discussions already from a few years back, and that continued all the way through to now".

"I won't deny that. But obviously, that never really materialized".

"I don't know actually and I've never really chosen to dive too deep into it", added Ricciardo on the reasons why. Everyone thought it would be a good fit, obviously, with my name and all the background stuff, but yeah, I'm trying not to get psychologically stuck in any situation.

Despite having experienced Ricciardo's character throughout his rookie F1 campaign, Norris admits he knows little about how Ricciardo operates within a team environment.

"Carlos had a very strong 2019".

"It's hard to know what to expect until you are really there", Norris said during an Instagram live with Sky Sports.

"I am essaying that no decision is ever black and white". There wasn't any moment, which was like a light bulb and said, 'Yes, that's what I need to do.' Equally, there wasn't something I saw in McLaren, which created that or there wasn't something in Renault, which created the moment of, 'I have to move on'.

"Obviously this is not an overnight decision".

"He is one of the few people who is not active on social media, and he is one of the most successful people in our sport, yet he is one of the most private. And even that in itself brings a lot of mystery behind him".

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ricciardo lived on the family farm in Perth, Australia, surrounded by sheep, cows and alpacas.

"I think that's been fuelled more than anything". Yeah, because it feels pretty lonely on the farm, which is good, but I'm going to be honest, I miss the spotlight and the spotlight and the chaos of F1 and of the competition. "I want to be back very quickly". In 2019 and 2020 everything exploded a lot more. I miss it very much. So yeah, that would be a nice little send-off for everyone involved.
