The Reds face having to play matches away from Merseyside until they seal the league crown over fears fans will ignore social distancing guidelines and spill out onto the streets to celebrate a first title in 30 years.

Liverpool FC finished in second place in the Premier League last season and lifted the Premier League trophy under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool stepped up preparations by resuming contact training in recent days, with Klopp looking to hit the ground running in the postponed Merseyside derby.

Everton and Liverpool oppose plans to make them play at neutral venues and the former have confirmed their intention to host the derby by formally asking the advisory group to convene the meeting.

Jurgen Klopp's style of football and the success he has enjoyed at Anfield has seen players attracted by a move, with Reds target Timo Werner speaking warmly recently about Liverpool.

"If we become champions, whatever celebrations are possible, we will do as a team internally and with all our supporters in the moment we are allowed to do so again", he added.

But de Blasio came under fire Sunday after he defended police officers who drove vehicles into a crowd of protesters. A 21-year-old man was shot in the neighbourhood around 12:30 a.m. and was taken to a hospital, police said.

"I heard a day ago a really good phrase about that we have the best home fans in the world, and now we need the best stay-at-home fans in the world".

"I think obviously for us we still think we've got work to do, and we have".

Klopp said Liverpool "would love" to play their home games at Anfield but feels there is no advantage when crowds are absent, as shown by results since the Bundesliga resumed.

He said: "We will not have the help from the crowd but no team will have that so where is the advantage?"

"We have tried to simulate the situation by training in the stadium and getting used to it".

"If that doesn't attract you to play for Liverpool then we don't really want you".
