In Austin, the data showed that West Oaks had the most confirmed COVID-19-related deaths - 22.

According to CMS, there are at least 95,515 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in nursing homes nationwide, with another 58,288 suspected cases.

That brings the total cases in the county to 12. The center also has the second highest number of confirmed cases in the state, behind a nursing home in El Paso.

For example, some states count a COVID-19-infected nursing home patient who was transferred to a hospital and died there as a death in one of their residents, while other states attribute that resident's in-hospital death to that hospital. County-specific information and a statewide map are available here. "The estimates included all types of long-term care facilities, such as assisted living centers and group homes". Our members have supported CMS' reporting guidelines from the beginning. There may be confusion with some nursing homes confusing numbers of cumulative cases with numbers they had in the prior week, which should go in separate columns and may result in an overcount.

She expects a lot more cases to appear in coming weeks because states have been asked to test all nursing home residents and staff. The facility reported 42 positive cases among residents and 32 among employees. "We see nursing homes, more of them reporting in, and we're going to continue to work on scrubbing the data".

Coronavirus patients with high blood pressure twice as likely to die
As these patient numbers are quite low, the researchers said this finding should be treated with caution. Almost 30 percent - 850 patients - had a history of hypertension, another term for high blood pressure.

"A federal watchdog report last month found a "persistent" pattern of infection control problems in nursing homes even before the coronavirus".

The CMS data also measured total deaths at facilities during this time period. "New and better data allows nursing homes the ability to make targeted decisions to prevent further spread and quickly determine where resources should be allocated, better protecting both residents and caregivers".

The agency posted the data on its Nursing Home Compare website. "If you're talking five (confirmed cases) out of several thousand, that actually is encouraging news". A total of 198 resident have recovered, as 21 new recoveries were reported this week.

Among the new cases Friday include a resident under 19, three in their 20s, one in their 30s, one in their 60s and one in their 70s.
