Larger tile view: Up to 49 participants can be seen in one screen. These new features in Google Meet include 49 participants in one video call for free/non-enterprise users, customisable backgrounds, 100-people video calls for Google Nest users and a number of additions from rivals, including "raise hand", polling and better moderator controls.

Like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other popular video conferencing apps, Google Meet will allow users to blur your background or replace it entirely. The new Meet features will be launching later this year, presumably before classes return in the fall. Since making its premium features available to all users for free, Google has been expanding its feature-set with new updates. Apart from these, Google is also introducing a "raise hand" feature for Meet users when they want to join a live presentation feed.

Hand Raising: Increase participation in larger meetings by enabling participants to "raise their hands" when they something to say.

Meeting attendance - hosts will get finer control over meetings and will be able to see who attended and who did not.

As reported earlier, another feature coming in the next few months is background blur, or the ability to replace your background with an image of your choosing so you can keep your team's focus exclusively on you.

The move comes weeks after President Donald Trump promised to take action to counter Beijing's "smothering" of the city's freedoms.

Additionally, group video calling on the Next Hub Max now supports Google Meet as well.

Polls - hosts will be able to engage their audience with real-time polling. Just say "Hey Google, start a meeting", or "Hey Google, make a group call", and you can be connected to Google Meet straightway.

Breakout rooms: Make it easy for large meetings to split into smaller groups, have parallel discussions, and reconvene once finished.

Additional Moderator Controls: Offers additional controls for hosts to mute, present, join, and more. The feature is now available to G Suite users as an early access programme.
