Two new episodes of Normal People will be made, which will explore what the hell happened to the couple from Ireland.

Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones are reprising their Normal People roles for two new special episodes set 40 years in the future.

The news will be a delight to fans, who have become so enamoured with the series they are even obsessed by lead character Connell's chain necklace.

In a surreal musical crossover, the deadly serious but naughty drama joined up with deeply frivolous but naughty comedy Fleabag when the now legendary "hot priest", played by Dublin actor Andrew Scott, took the confessions of Marianne and Connell. The shorts, titled Normal Older People and airing on Ireland's RTÉ this Friday, are set 40 years later and will reveal what happened to Connell and Marianne's passionately tumultuous relationship.

By now, we've all well and truly devoured all there is of Sally Rooney's Normal People.

That's all we know for now (other than these new episodes will be shot in conjunction with United Kingdom charity Comic Relief Ireland and that there will be a guest star in it) but stay tuned for where you can expect to watch it. "I mean I can't even say [everything] about it because there's a guest star in it".

While Normal People is available to stream on Stan in Australia, a local platform for the Comic Relief specials and Conversations with Friends is yet to be announced.

'I can't imagine any context in which they would have allowed this little sort of extra special into the world of Normal People'.

Normal People has been praised for the way it has handled intimate scenes.

However, the thing that had everyone talking was Connell and Marianne being reunited on our screens.
