Dean Smith's troops were showing fighting spirit, pressurising the visitors in the last quarter of an hour, especially with long balls whipped into the box searching for Mbwana Samatta but Wolves were standing firm.

Wolves - Aston Villa was very one-sided and the hosts struggled throughout.

Second bottom Villa have now played a game more than the teams around them and have just six matches left.

Villa travel away to Anfield to face Premier League champions Liverpool in the start of a hard run of fixtures, with Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Everton all up next for Villa as they fight to avoid the drop. Wolves have momentum and are having a superb season.

United forward Odion Ighalo and Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell scored with their respective sides' first shots on target as an entertaining second half followed a forgettable first. That sums it up. They need a series of good performances to beat the drop.

The USTA announced Wednesday that wheelchair tennis will be played at Flushing Meadows from September 10-13, the last four days of the Grand Slam tournament.

Although West Ham and Bournemouth have the same number of points as Villa, they have a game in hand. He was involved in Wolves' goal and the last thing you want to see if you're an opposition defender is Traore coming off the bench to run at you. "We didn't settle down early on, but once we had a couple of opportunities we started to control the game and create more chances", said Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves went close again soon after as Matt Doherty smashed a shot into the side-netting, then Jimenez broke free down the right and flashed a ball across the six yard box but Diogo Jota just couldn't quite get on the end of it.

When the clock struck 60' Jota made way for former Villa winger Adama Traoré, and it only took Wolves a few minutes after that to take the lead.

Despite the impressive performances from Jack Grealish, Aston Villa have only managed to score 36 league goals this season. Traore had an immediate impact and found Jimenez. Jimnez whipped in a cross which Spaniard Jonny flicked to Dendoncker, who pushed the ball onto his left foot before rifling it past goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.

The Belgium worldwide struck in the second half to earn the visitors a win at Villa Park and close the gap on the top four.
