U.S. could see 100000 new Covid-19 cases per day, Fauci says

Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, testifying before a Senate committee today offered some very grim news in terms of coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) daily incidence numbers.

California, Texas and many other states have reported record increases in new cases of the sometimes deadly illness caused by the novel coronavirus, leading to a sobering reassessment of US efforts to contain the pandemic.

"I am very concerned", he told a hearing of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee. "So I am very concerned".

At the same committee hearing, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Robert Redfield encouraged the same moves.

The key is for the public to stop what Fauci called "an all-or-nothing phenomenon", meaning either a state is locked down or people are in bars without masks on.

"We can reverse these concerning trends, if we work together", Giroir said.

"We're not in the situation of New Zealand or Singapore or Korea where a new case is rapidly identified and all the contacts are traced and people are isolated who are sick and people who are exposed are quarantined and they can keep things under control", Dr Schuchat said in an interview with The Journal of the American Medical Association on Monday.

According to CNN, 36 states have reported a noticeable increase in the number of new cases over the last week when compared to the previous week.

The rate of those testing positive is increasing in hot spots, leading experts to worry that the disease is rampant.

And though G4 holds H1N1 genes, people who have received seasonal flu vaccines won't have any immunity. Influenza viruses frequently jump from pigs to humans, but most do not then transmit between humans.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., pointed out that Trump has 82 million Twitter followers while the agencies represented by the four experts have a combined social media following of only about 5 million. Patty Murray, Washington Democrat. NY and New Jersey are rethinking plans to allow indoor dining again, citing bad experiences in other states and their desire to avoid another crisis after getting slammed early on. "So it's a really good tool. Congregation in a bar, inside, is bad news", said Dr.

A new normal for schools: Fauci said schools should reopen per CDC guidelines and be open to modifying school schedules, alternating days, and even virtual lessons.

"The president has plenty of admirers, they would follow his lead", he added. "It's about your neighbors, it's about your colleagues, it's about keeping other people safe". A report by Goldman Sachs economists this week predicted that a national mask requirement "could potentially substitute for lockdowns that would otherwise subtract" almost 5% of the country's GDP.

Fauci said that he's "aspirationally hopeful" that a vaccine for Covid-19 will be ready in early 2021, though he cautioned that there's no guarantee that a safe vaccine will be developed.

As for returning students to school, Fauci said institutions may need to consider online classes or staggered schedules to safely bring students back.

Polls have shown that many Americans are skeptical of a vaccine. "But in my view, the greater risk is not going back to school".

"It really will depend on the dynamics of the outbreak and the particular location of where the school is", Fauci stated. In lengthy remarks, he railed against "central planning" and "political correctness" in evaluating and responding to the virus. I don't think we will.

"We're going in the wrong direction if you look at the curves of the new cases", Fauci said.

"Thank you", Mr. Paul said. A large part of the hospitalizations we're seeing now ... some are very serious cases and deaths involving younger Americans.
