Derby County defender Andre Wisdom in hospital after being stabbed

The defender is now recovering in hospital, with Derby confirming that Wisdom sustained injuries during the attack.

In a statement released to the publication, Wisdom's club confirmed the incident, and revealed that the player is in stable condition.

He was taken to hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

The 27-year-old defender is expected to make a full recovery and could leave hospital in two or three days.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Derby County said: 'Derby County Football Club can confirm that Andre Wisdom has been the victim of an unprovoked assault and robbery.

Detectives have appealed for dashcam footage of the "unprovoked assault".

His injuries are not "thought to be life-threatening" and the former Liverpool player is a stable condition.

Wisdom will miss Derby's game at Preston on Wednesday night and is also likely to be unavailable when the Rams host East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

"Merseyside Police are investigating and the club will focus its initiatives on supporting Andre and his family".

Wisdom came through the ranks at Liverpool and was handed his first-team debut by Brendan Rodgers in 2012, before making a further 21 appearances for the Anfield club.

Wisdom joined Derby from Liverpool in 2017 for a reported fee of £3million after making 14 appearances for the Reds.

He's previously played on loan for Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion.
