Moon expects Trump to meet Kim Jong-un before Nov polls #116803

A North Korean broker who handled remittances sent from defectors in South Korea and other countries was recently banished to an area far from the Sino-North Korean border, Daily NK has learned.

Moon has said in past speeches advances in U.S.

"The U.S. side understands (Moon's position), and it's now making efforts (for that), as far as I know", he told reporters on the condition of anonymity.

US President Donald Trump has been for long attempting to denuclearise the peninsula, but efforts fell apart past year, even though Trump had referred to Kim as a "good friend".

Mr Biegun, however, said an in-person summit would be hard before the November election, citing the coronavirus pandemic which has all but wiped the world's diplomatic calendar clean.

Earlier this week, Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun, Washington's point man on Pyongyang, expressed doubt about the possibility. They met again at the demilitarised zone separating the two Koreas in June past year and agreed to restart negotiations, but working-level talks between the two sides in Sweden in October were broken off.

It's also not clear whether North Korea would agree to hold another summit.

In the meantime, the DPRK, which has criticized South Korea's apparent reluctance to halt the actions of North Korean defectors on numerous occasions, has decided at a Central Committee meeting to start treating Seoul as an "enemy".

North Korea is also upset at the South for failing to implement a series of 2018 agreements related to economic cooperation and reducing military tensions. The sanctions have prevented South Korea from moving ahead with the deals.

It would be his first trip to South Korea in six months.

Moon's offer, delivered to the White House, came as Seoul-Pyongyang ties have turned markedly chilly in recent months, with the communist nation's denuclearization talks with Washington in a protracted deadlock. However, the North's motives became muddied after Kim last week abruptly suspended the pressure campaign without explanation.

KIM Jong-un reportedly threatened world war three with South Korea after "dirty" photoshopped pictures of his wife were dropped into North Korea.
