Depp was concluding nearly four days of evidence in his libel case against a British tabloid newspaper that accused him of physically abusing Heard.

On the third day of his libel action against NGN, publishers of The Sun, and the newspaper's executive editor Dan Wootton, Pirates Of The Caribbean star Depp, 57, dubbed his ex-wife's claims of a drug-fuelled three-day ordeal of assaults as "pedestrian fiction".

In three days in the witness box at the High Court, Depp has described a volatile relationship that descended into screaming matches which sometimes turned physical.

During her cross-examination, Ms Wass accused Depp of slapping Heard, grabbing her by the throat and throwing her "against a ping-pong table which collapsed", all of which the actor denied.

As a result of the meeting, Depp arrived two hours late to Heard's birthday party, held at the Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles.

Heard filed for divorce the following year and obtained a restraining order against Depp on the grounds of domestic abuse.

"I wanted nothing to do with her", Depp said. Heard claims the couple fought after the party and Depp threw a magnum wine bottle at her.

He also denied claims he hit Heard when she laughed at one of his tattoos, dangled her Yorkshire terrier, Pistol, out a auto window and threatened to put the dog in a microwave.

"It was not left by a three- or four-pound dog. I was convinced that it was either Ms Heard herself or one of her cohorts involved in leaving human feces on the bed", he said.

But soon after, he said, he realized that the marriage couldn't be saved.

Depp agreed with the lawyer that the house was "wrecked" after the couple's argument, which he said was triggered by Heard's unhappiness about being asked to sign a postnuptial agreement.

Depp said he tried to make the separation amicable.

"I was not in good shape".

Canada: Unemployment Rate falls to 12.3% in June vs. 12% expected
Only Newfound and Labrador and Prince Edward Island experienced a smaller percentage increase in employment. BC's unemployment rate in February 2020, prior to the pandemic, sat at 4.5% - the lowest in the country.

By June 2016, however, Depp said he had become "quite bitter" because he felt he was being publicly depicted as "a wife beater".

"I went, if you'll forgive the analogy, from Cinderella to Quasimodo in 0.6 seconds and I was without a voice", he said.

That August, Depp wrote in a text to an associate that Heard was "begging for total global humiliation".

And he conceded that Heard did her best to get him off drugs for good in 2014.

The court was shown photographs of graffiti-covered mirrors, which Depp acknowledged he'd written on by dipping his bloody fingertip in paint. He denies all the allegations. "It made contact with the right hand side of her face", she said. The notes said Heard experienced anxiety, insecurity and jealousy and had "severe outbursts of anger and rage". Police concluded that no crime had been committed. He strongly denies all of them.

Sasha Wass QC, the lead counsel for NGN, put it to Depp that he was "drinking regularly" and "taking controlled drugs" at the time, to which he replied: "I respectfully disagree with your assumptions". Asked about the claim Depp told the hearing: "There are several times when I said to Miss Heard "Listen, We are a crime scene waiting to happen".

Johnny Depp replied: "Ms Heard was venting how upset she was that I was so late for her birthday dinner and that I had made a fool of her and that I didn't care and everybody was talking about how bad it was of me to do such a thing and it ramped up and became aggressive... she was very, very angry".

Depp and Wass sparred over disputed details of the Australia episode, which ended up with the couple's rented house being trashed and Depp's fingertip being severed to the bone.

It had previously been claimed Depp cut his finger on a vodka bottle thrown by his wife during a row.

Depp accused Heard of making up "hoax" abuse claims.

The actor's attorney David Sherborne then took over by directly asking whether Depp had ever hit a woman.

Depp will continue to give evidence in the trial on Friday, with his exes Winona Ryder and Vanessa Paradis expected to give evidence in his defence later in the case.
