De Blasio tweeted hours later, "To whoever vandalized our mural on 5th Avenue: nice try", adding that the city Department of Transportation had "already fixed it".

The Sussex force said the man was arrested and became aggressive towards officers before being placed on the ground.

Last month, more than 10,000 protesters marched through the East Sussex city in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement worldwide. He then set down the can and fled the scene.

However, according to the New York Daily News, police said that 15 seconds before the video recording, the man had allegedly flung a helmet at an officer.

Red paint was splattered across the mural, which was painted on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, directly in front of the president's building.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling on I-285 in the Southbound lanes when the driver was shot. In addition, the 30-year-old rapper's representative from his label Quality Control has confirmed his death.

In a Chicago suburb, one was changed to read, "All Lives Matter" before it was re-painted.

Reports from people who attended indicate that a fight broke out as Black Lives Matter protesters followed Blue Lives Matter protesters away from the main group.

Video showed someone splashing red paint on the mural, which was installed Thursday.

Police describe the vandalism as criminal mischief.
