"This season, you can count on getting extra-big savings without the extra-long lines, with plenty of opportunities to score the best deals on the hottest items both before and after November 26", the company said in a press release.

Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, announced the move on Tuesday, and at the time, analysts expected more would follow.

Thanksgiving sales, which are not even on the top 10 busiest days of a retailers' calendar, have also eaten into Black Friday sales, though Black Friday is still the year's biggest or second-biggest shopping day.

Target will also start releasing its holiday deals in October, to allow people to start their shopping early. "This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we're continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can".

Macy's CEO Jeff Gennette said earlier this month that the department store would pivot its Black Friday business more toward online and will likely go "full force" with holiday marketing right after Halloween, according to the Associated Press.

Following the recent news that Walmart stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year, Target has made a decision to do the same.

On Monday, Target said it would close its stores on Thanksgiving for the first time since 2011, reports USA Today.

The company did not announce when it would open on Black Friday.

Target is also making more than 20K products available via pickup and delivery services, including fresh and frozen groceries.
