Gohmert did not wear a mask while questioning Barr, but the seats in the hearing room are spaced many feet away from one another and it is common practice to remove masks during questioning.

"I can't help but think that if I hadn't been wearing a mask so much in the last 10 days or so, I really wonder if I would have gotten it", he told The American Independent. Some are sequestering in their offices until they can get tested. But to wear or not wear a mask remains a political flashpoint in America.

In an interview with NBC affiliate KETK, Gohmert was asked why he was pushing the importance of wearing masks only when you are confirmed to have coronavirus, rather than at all times in public settings such as stores, and in any closed environment such as in an office, as recommended by scientists, health experts, and the World Health Organization. But Gohmert has been seen swaggering around his D.C. offices in the cramped Rayburn building, the House floor, committee chambers, and myriad other locations in or around the Capitol while only sporadically wearing a mask and not observing social distancing.

Gohmert has typically worn a mask as required during House hearings, including during Tuesday's almost six-hour testimony by Attorney General William Barr before the House Judiciary Committee.

But footage from a reporter for The Hill showed Gohmert walking through the halls of Congress right behind Barr - both men not wearing masks. There are even reports members of his staff were berated for daring to wear masks.

"But they give false positives sometimes so they re-tested me with the swab that goes way up into your sinuses and it finally came back, it was positive too", Gohmert said.
