Ellen Carmichael, a former member of Cain's staff, tweeted Thursday, "I'm very saddened to learn of the passing of my former boss, Herman Cain".

The announcement was made by Dan Calabrese on Cain's website.

Whether he contracted the disease at the Tulsa rally or not can not be known, but hopefully, some will take this as a cautionary tale.

Cain swiftly returned Godfather's to profitability and then helped engineer a leveraged buyout of the chain in 1988. The stint with the NRA gave Cain valuable contacts in and around the political scene.

He ran for president in 2012, briefly leading in the Republican Party polls during the primaries.

"What will I tell those people whose jobs I will have to eliminate?"

During his presidential run in 2012, Cain grew notorious for his "9-9-9: tax reform plan" that called to replace current taxes with a 9 percent personal income tax, a 9 percent business transactions tax and a 9 percent federal sales tax. "Thank God for a man like that", he said.

Production is slated to begin later this year in Wilmington, NC, albeit when proper safety protocols are established, with a 2021 release date in mind.

Less than two years later, Mr Cain was diagnosed with late-stage cancer in his colon that had spread to his liver.

He ultimately bowed out of the race in December 2011 amid sexual misconduct allegations, which he denied.

Cain, grew up in Atlanta, entered the Navy after graduating from historically Black Morehouse college in 1967.

Former U.S. Housing Secretary Jack Kemp became a fan of Cain when the two met in 1994. He tweeted a photograph of himself without a mask at the rally surrounded by fellow Black Trump supporters also not wearing masks. He had also been Chairman of the Kansas City Fed and CEO of the National Restaurant Association.

"The past two days, we've had nearly 500 cases, and we know we had several large events a little over two weeks ago, which is about right", the doctor said. On June 22 he declared it a "shocker" that a "rampaging socialist mob" tearing down statues of historical figures was "ignorant of history".
