James Murdoch resigns from the board of News Corp

The departure of the son of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch would leave the News Corp board with 10 directors. The resignation was effective Friday.

The conflicts cited in the resignation letter included editorial content printed in News Corp entities the The New York Post and The Wall Street Journal, Axios reported.

But he had remained on the board of News Corp - something that had intrigued friends of the family.

James Murdoch, whose older brother Lachlan Murdoch serves as the head of Fox Corporation, had already left part of the media empire, due to his disgust of Fox News.

Representatives of Mr Murdoch and his wife Kathryn have acknowledged the couple's "frustration" with coverage of the subject by some of most influential Murdoch-owned news brands, including Fox News. "We wish him the very best in his future endeavors".

James and Lachlan had shared power at 21st Century Fox, but the sale of much of the Fox entertainment business to Disney in 2019 saw James depart as CEO.
