Hyundai Motor has announced a new brand dedicated to EVs and it is named the IONIQ.

There's quite a stock of new metal waiting in the wings: the Koreans promise to introduce 'three innovative Ioniq EV models over the next four years, starting early 2021 with Ioniq 5, a midsize EV CUV based on the Concept 45'.

The Ioniq now sells as a fastback electric auto as well as with a hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrain in Australia, although the pure electric form has proven the preferred version for consumers, selling more than double all HEV and PHEV models combined.

Korean vehicle maker Hyundai has confirmed it will launch a trio of new Hyundai Ioniq electric cars starting from 2021, based on two familiar concepts and one still to be shown.

Using the new Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP architecture), Hyundai claims the upcoming IONIQ brand models will offer fast charging capability and plentiful driving range.

While a rendering of the first three Ioniq brand models was released, there is a dearth of details about the individual models.

White House 'looked into' carving face of Donald Trump on Mt Rushmore
Noem said she thought that Trump was joking and laughed in response, but "he wasn't laughing, so he was totally serious ". At the time of the interview , Noem detailed the moment, which took place in the Oval Office in 2017.

"With the launch of a new EV family brand, shares of Hyundai Motor are rallying today, reflecting investors' hope that the auto industry will outperform compared to other industries", said analyst Kwon Soon-woo at SK Securities.

These forthcoming electric vehicles will play a part in the Hyundai Motor Group-which includes Kia-reaching their goal of selling one million electric vehicles by 2025. It is based on the concept EV 45, which Hyundai unveiled at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2019 in Frankfurt. Hyundai Canada hasn't yet revealed if the Ioniq brand will be sold the same way. It is offered as an all-electric, plug-in hybrid or standard hybrid.

As for the Hyundai 6 coming in 2022, it adopts a distinctly different design language, its rounded, coupe-like sedan body directly influenced by the Hyundai Prophecy concept. As such, Ioniq models will be sold alongside conventionally powered Hyundais, perhaps in a designated area of a dealer showroom.

Welcome to a new vehicle badge, auto spotters: Ioniq.

The new Hyundai Ioniq badge is simple and unadorned - the name is a compound of Ion and Unique. This is most evident in the home market of South Korea where Tesla has managed to gain a firm foothold and its Model 3 auto has become the most imported EV ever.

A number of additional battery-electric vehicles will follow through the Genesis and Kia brands, last month reporting on the Imagine BEV set to become a flagship of the latter marque.
