A few years ago, Google already offered a version of Maps for Apple's watch but then dropped support in 2017.

"Google Maps helps you find places to go, things to do [,] and how to get there-no matter what device you're using", a new post to the Google The Keyword blog notes.

The app provides estimated arrival times, step-by-step directions to saved destinations. It's also adding support for the Apple CarPlay Dashboard. The app is expected to be rolled out globally in the coming weeks, as per the announcement by the search giant.

It noted that due to a global shortage of commercial supplies, there was widespread use of homemade masks and mask alternatives. But improvised face coverings such as bandanas and balaclava-style face coverings were less effective, the researchers found.

"With compatibility for Apple's CarPlay Dashboard and a new app for the Apple Watch, people using iOS devices can safely and easily navigate with Google Maps right from their vehicle or wrist". Other shortcuts are also available on-wrist. And the ones that aren't saved will have to be started from your phone and you can then continue getting directions on your Apple Watch. The feature will start rolling out to users with the next iOS update.

Google bills this as a way to manage other bits of information without needing to leave the turn-by-turn navigation of Google Maps, and for drivers to quickly get the information they need while keeping focus on the road.

If you're a regular Google Maps user on CarPlay, you may know the frustration of using the CarPlay dashboard, only to be kicked back to seeing Apple Maps. Starting today, Google Maps can be accessed by CarPlay users in Dashboard Mode.
